HBH Woolacotts began its journey in July 1976 with the opening of its very first store in Bude, Cornwall. Founded by Ted Hemmerle, the business quickly grew, opening a second store in Launceston and expanding its reach across the region. In May 1979, a third branch opened its doors in Holsworthy, marking the start of what would become a well-loved and trusted name in Cornwall and Devon.
By 1990, HBH Woolacotts embraced further opportunities, opening the Plymouth Panasonic Centre, followed by the Wadebridge shop in January 1994. Continued growth and commitment to serving local communities saw the addition of branches in Liskeard and Bodmin in March 2003.
In May 2012, HBH Woolacotts celebrated a major milestone with the opening of its first superstore in St Austell. This was followed by a store on Barnstaple high street in June 2015 and the launch of a second superstore in Plymouth in September 2017.
Today, HBH Woolacotts proudly operates 9 branches across Devon and Cornwall, including dedicated Panasonic Stores and Sony Centres within the St Austell and Plymouth superstores.
As a family-run business spanning three generations, HBH Woolacotts remains deeply rooted in its founding principles. From Ted Hemmerle, to current Managing Director Martin Hemmerle and Director Chris Hemmerle, the company has always prioritised a customer-first ethos, encapsulated in its motto: “Happy to Be Helpful.”
What started as a small retailer offering TVs, white goods and hi-fi systems has evolved into a trusted supplier of a vast range of electrical appliances, representing hundreds of top brands.
