Celebrating 7 Years of HBH Woolacotts’ Plymouth Superstore!
This September, HBH Woolacotts’ Plymouth Superstore celebrates a significant milestone – its 7th anniversary! Located at Coypool Retail Park in Plympton, just off the A38, our flagship store has been serving the Plymouth community and beyond since its grand opening in September 2017. And what a journey it’s been!
A Legacy of Excellence in Plymouth
Although our Plymouth Superstore has only been open for seven years, HBH Woolacotts’ presence in Plymouth goes back much further. We’ve been a part of the city’s retail landscape since 1990, when we opened the UK’s very first Panasonic Store on Cornwall Street in the city centre.
Later, the Plymouth Sony Centre became another landmark on Cornwall Street. These stores played a key role in our story, but as shopping habits evolved, we recognized the growing demand for larger, out-of-town stores that offer customers more space, variety, and the convenience of ample parking.
The Vision for a New Kind of Store
With this shift in mind, we sought the perfect location to bring a new kind of shopping experience to Plymouth. After the success of our first “HBH Woolacotts – Electrical Superstore” in St Austell in 2012, we were confident that a similar concept would thrive in Plymouth. When B&Q made the decision to reduce its number of stores in the area and a looming Brexit vote created uncertainty in the retail market, we seized the opportunity to open on Coypool Retail Park. The decision to launch our largest store yet paid off—and as they say, the rest is history!
An Impressive Space with a Local Touch
Today, the Plymouth Superstore remains our flagship store, offering an impressive 22,000 square feet of retail space. This includes not only the showroom but also warehousing and yard space for a logistics hub that services Plymouth, East Cornwall, and parts of South and East Devon. We take pride in providing an unbeatable selection of electrical products and home appliances from the industry’s leading brands.
Shoppers at the Plymouth Superstore enjoy a unique experience, with dedicated shop-in-shop areas for our Panasonic Store and Sony Centre, as well as specialised zones for top TV brands: Panasonic, LG, Sony, Samsung & Loewe.
There’s also dedicated home audio displays from brands such as Sonos, Yamaha, and Roberts Radio. Audiophiles will also appreciate our dedicated hi-fi & home cinema room, where they can immerse themselves in sound in a relaxed environment, away from the shop floor hustle and bustle.
Downstairs, we offer a vast array of home appliances, from laundry and refrigeration products to vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, and seasonal essentials like heaters and dehumidifiers. Upstairs, our cooking & kitchen centre showcases freestanding and built-in cooking appliances, small electricals, kitchen gadgets, and utensils – known as The Cookshop. The store also features a kitchen concession operated by Haven Kitchens, providing everything you need for a complete kitchen experience.
A Family Business with a Personal Touch
Despite the size and scope of the Plymouth Superstore, HBH Woolacotts is still very much a family-run business. We are committed to maintaining the warm, local feel and exceptional service that has been a hallmark of HBH Woolacotts for over 40 years. Whether you’re browsing for the latest tech, upgrading your kitchen, or getting advice on home cinema, you’ll find service levels here that are hard to match by any national or internet-based competitors.
Looking to the Future
The last seven years have been an incredible journey, and we’re grateful for the continued support and loyalty of our customers in Plymouth and beyond. The Plymouth Superstore has become a hub for technology enthusiasts, home chefs, and everyday shoppers looking for quality products and friendly, expert service. As we celebrate this anniversary, we look forward to many more years of serving the community and bringing the best in electrical products to your doorstep.
Here’s to seven successful years—and many more to come!
Happy 7th birthday, Plymouth Superstore!
