A History of METZ
Founded on November 28, 1938, by German engineer Paul Metz and 12 entrepreneurs, Metz embarked on a remarkable 80-year journey. Originating in radio manufacturing, the brand diversified into camera flashlights and TV production over the years. With a legacy of perseverance and innovation, Metz launched the METZ blue Label brand in 2018, expanding its presence from Germany to the global market. Throughout its history, Metz has been a pioneer in product development.
The introduction of the first Metz radio in 1947 marked a significant milestone, renowned for its exceptional design and sound quality. In 1952, the company ventured into high-quality flash unit production under the name “mecablitz,” a nod to its origin as “Metz Camera Blitz.” By 1954, Metz TVs were making waves, with the Metz 702 being used to follow the World Cup. In 1965, Metz unveiled the Mallorca family of television sets, which evolved into colour television sets by 1967, symbolised by Vice Chancellor Willy Brandt’s activation of the “colour button” at the IFA Berlin.
Metz continued to innovate, introducing its proprietary 100 Hz technology in 1990, significantly enhancing picture quality. In 2005, the brand launched its “made in Germany” LCD-TV sets, followed by high-definition LCD TVs with integrated hard disk recorders in 2008. In response to the digital age, Metz introduced the mecaControl app at IFA 2012, enabling smartphone and tablet operation of Metz televisions.
In 2014, Metz expanded its TV segment, unveiling five frameless TV models and revamping its TV operating system. The brand’s commitment to cutting-edge technology culminated in 2016 with the launch of its first OLED television, the Metz Novum OLED twin R. From radios to OLED TVs, Metz has continuously evolved, leaving an indelible mark on the consumer electronics industry.
In 2018, Metz celebrated its 80th anniversary with the launch of its global brand, METZ blue, catering to diverse markets worldwide. With 85 years of German manufacturing heritage, Metz Classic ensures top-notch quality in its “made in Germany” products. Partnering with Skyworth, METZ blue offers high-quality smart TV solutions, merging cutting-edge technology with user-friendly design. Their aim is to make advanced screen technology accessible to all, prioritizing reliability, simplicity, and endless entertainment for customers.
